The Perkolator – News to “Perk” You Up
Muskoka Graphics first became involved with The Perkolator in 2020, helping bring the long-established community publication further into the digital world at a time when the pandemic was changing the way local businesses connected with their customers.
The Perkolator itself has been around since 1995. Built around a simple and successful concept, it combines a free printed publication with an active online edition, supported by local advertising. Its mix of humour, trivia, positive stories, community information and local business advertising has made it a familiar publication throughout the communities it serves.
Muskoka Graphics developed and manages ThePerkolator.ca, extending the publication beyond print with current and past editions, weekly online content, advertiser information, subscriptions and opportunities for businesses to reach local consumers. The website works hand-in-hand with the printed publication, giving advertisers exposure both in print and online.
But this client relationship eventually became something quite different.
We loved the business so much that when The Perkolator’s longtime owner decided it was time to retire, Muskoka Graphics purchased the publication. Today, The Perkolator operates as part of Muskoka Graphics, giving us the unusual perspective of being both the company behind the website and the owner of the business it supports.
We’ve continued developing the publication while preserving the friendly, upbeat personality that has kept it going for more than 30 years. Today, The Perkolator serves communities throughout North Muskoka, South Muskoka, Almaguin Highlands and Orillia, connecting local businesses with readers through its combination of print and digital advertising.
The Perkolator has become much more than another website in our portfolio. It’s an example of how strongly we believe in the power of good design, effective advertising, local business and community-focused media — because in this case, we believed in what we were helping to build enough to buy the company.
